FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why choose an in-home lifestyle newborn session rather than a posed studio newborn session?
In-home lifestyle newborn sessions are a great way to capture photos of your newest addition in the comfort of your own home, which is the perfect environment for your new baby! I know first hand, whether it’s your first time or your third time welcoming a new baby into your home, getting into a new routine is HARD. For the first few weeks, or even months, you may find it impossible to make it anywhere on time. That’s where the lifestyle newborn session comes in - I come to you so you don’t have to worry! Everything you need is there, in the comfort of your home. No bright lights, uncomfortable posing, or cumbersome props. Lifestyle sessions are all about being natural, and capturing sweet moments between you and your new baby.
When is the best time to book my lifestyle newborn photos?
It’s never too late to capture your newborn photos, whether it’s two days after birth, or two months.
If you’re looking for those sleepy, fresh new baby photos, you’ll probably want to book within those first two weeks of baby’s life.
If you’d rather baby look more alert, and maybe show off some personality, any time after those first two weeks may be right for you.
No matter the reason, if you regret not getting those fresh newborn photos, it’s never too late! Personally, I had my baby’s newborn photos done at a month old, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
Is there anything specific I should do before my session?
•Make sure baby is fed and changed before your session! Since we only have a limited amount of time together, making sure baby has a full belly before we begin ensures that we don’t have to take time during a session for a feeding! Of course, we can’t control when baby gets hungry, and feeding pics are always sweet! If baby needs a diaper change, we can always take a short pause to make sure baby is clean and happy!
•Make sure any outfits/accessories/props (stuffed animals, name blocks, blankets etc..) are readily available to be grabbed quickly during the session

Does baby get their own portraits?
Yes! Lifestyle sessions capture the pure bonding of the new baby with parents and/or siblings, as well as some solo baby portraits as well. These solo baby portraits are done in the same style, no “newborn froggy poses” or baby wrapped up tight in a tiny basket. Here are some examples:

I see that you post photos from your sessions on social media, but I'm a very private person. Can you please keep us off of your social media?
I absolutely respect your wishes, no matter what! Please let me know before our session if you prefer me not posting photos from your session for any reason, so that I can mark it in my notes. While I am grateful for the photos that I am able to share, these memories are ultimately meant for you and your family!

I don't post my kid(s) face on social media, but I would love to use some of the photos from our session to announce our baby. Can we take a few without baby's face showing?
Of course! I will spend the session creating memories for you and your family. Any poses during our session can be adjusted to hide baby's face for you to be able to post on social media. Please give me a heads up before our session if you'd like me to do so!
I want photos breastfeeding my baby, would you take those?
Absolutely!! Breastfeeding photos are always a sweet, intimate memory to capture for you to cherish forever. In fact, we can dedicate a whole session or mini session, if desired! As always, photos will NEVER be posted without consent.
What if: I live in a studio apartment/my house is cluttered/my baby does not have a nursery etc.. Can I still book a lifestyle newborn session?
Of course! This is not a studio session, so not everything is going to be perfect, and that’s what makes the photos unique! Your home tells your story, and we want our photos to look as authentic! No nursery? No problem! We can take photos in a bed! Lots of clutter? Sometimes, all you need is a window! We never utilize the whole space in order to get great photos during a lifestyle session. In fact, limiting to just one or two areas is usually best for everyone involved!
I work with natural lighting, so before our session I will reach out asking about which areas of your home have the best natural lighting, typically those are the living room, nursery, or bedroom, but can be wherever!
What should we wear to our session?
Wear what makes you feel good! Try to color coordinate with your family, if you choose a dark blue outfit for baby, maybe mom wears a nude dress and dad a cream sweater. Neutrals are always my go to, as they photograph the best! If you have any inspo, questions, or ideas, feel free to send them my way before our session!
